Simon Tolson

Simon Tolson is a Senior Consultant at Fenwick Elliott LLP, the UK’s largest specialist construction and energy law firm, having served as its Senior Partner from 2002 to 2025. Admitted as a solicitor in 1987, he has over 40 years’ experience in UK and international construction and energy disputes and has led more than 20 reported UK court cases. A Fellow and Chartered Arbitrator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, he has sat as an adjudicator since 1996 on leading panels including TECSA, the Construction Industry Council and UK Adjudicators.

Consistently ranked among the top construction solicitors, he has particular expertise in claims, building defects and the Building Safety Act. He lectures widely, including at King’s College London, authored The Dictionary of Construction Terms, is drafting a new edition of Eggleston on Liquidated Damages and Extensions of Time, is Honorary President of TECSA and President of the Society of Construction Arbitrators, and is active in legal and construction technology, AI, procurement and delivery methods.

He has also helped shape adjudicator standards, examinations and continuing professional development, and leads the SCA’s international events programme. In 2023, he received the TECSA Clare Edwards Award and is also a Building magazine Commissioner on the Building the Future Commission.
